UK Maternal Mental Health Awareness Week3rd May is World Maternal Mental Health Day and 1st - 7th May is UK Maternal Mental Health Awareness week. The awareness week focussing on how and where mums and families can seek help and support for perinatal mental health problems is being co-ordinated by the Perinatal Mental Health Partnership. Nightly #PNDhour on Twitter 8-9pm @PNDandMe Each evening there will be a focus specifically on helping mums to seek help. Topics will be tied in with the themed days. Monday 1st May – Invitation for local groups and peer support services to share details of their servicesTuesday 2nd May – How to access support from health care professionals: PMHP will be running two Facebook Live sessions from PMHP’s Facebook page:
The Smile Group will be compiling a blog on overcoming obstacles to seeking help. PMHP will be promoting their positively received GP Checklist (accessible via their website) which mums can complete with their symptoms and pass to their health care professional if they are finding it difficult to verbalise their symptoms. Wednesday 3rd May – World Maternal Mental Health Day – Perinatal Positivity Pot: PMHP have been working with Postpartum Support International and member organizations on plans for the day. PMHP will be encouraging the creation of a virtual positivity pot for people to dip into (encouraging the use of the hashtag #perinatalpostivitypot) and will be tweeting quotes from mums on what has helped them during their recovery. Thursday 4th May – Self-Care: PMHP will be posting about self-care during the day focusing on how it’s okay to focus on yourself and how to do this. Friday 5th May – Tips and Tools to support recoveryTo end the week on a positive note, PMHP will be sharing practical strategies for managing symptoms.
